MUSIC OF FLOWERS![]() Author: Lew Malyshev "SO VKUSOM" Magazine, April 2006
Bright and warm tones, splendid imagery. No doubt, these paintings will be an asset in any home or office. The painter Yelena Karpinskaya lives in Toronto although she was born in Moscow. The main theme of her paintings is music and flowers. Music, most probably, was inherited from her grandfather, Ilya Romanovich Klyachko, a famous pianist and a professor of the Moscow Music Conservatory. Flowers… Well, the story of this affection is very likely to go back to her grandfather, too. He was very fond of flowers; indeed, flowers in bloom can hardly leave anyone indifferent, it is a miracle of nature, and it is never the same. And also science fiction. It helps to fill the works with vitality and gives the feel of breathing and flying high in a single system of subjects. - The bright red and hot colours prevail in your works. It must not be just a mere coincidence, it must reflect your personality in a way, is this right? - It is true that my paintings are full of red, orange and yellow. It must have to do with my perception of the world. These are the colours of autumn, my favourite time of the year. - What is your brightest childhood reminiscence? - What I recall most vividly is our dacha (summer cottage) near Moscow. My grandfather was very fond of flowers and was growing roses the whole summer long. I believe roses and music is my brightest reminiscence. ![]() - You are a granddaughter of the well known pianist and professor Ilya Romanovich Klyachko. It must be that you either studied music or just love music very much because the musicality of your paintings is not only thematic but, so to say, structural as well. Can you tell us about your sense of music? - My grandfather was a fantastically gifted musician and a natural-born teacher. Last year the Moscow Conservatory marked his 100th anniversary. My grandfather's former students, who now are famous musicians, gave a few concerts in his memory, all with full houses... I grew up "under the grand piano" and soaked in the divine atmosphere of classical music, still I never studied the piano in a serious way. I think my grandfather, a most modest man, simply did not want to hear any "patronage" talks... He taught me music grammar in a couple of years, and then never insisted I should go on. That's a pity. Certainly, music plays one of the most important roles in my life. The main thing I learned from my grandfather is how to love and listen to classical music. Unfortunately, today classical music is replaced by electronic sounds and electronic voices, and yet, classical music has much more to offer, all you have to do is to learn to listen to it! ![]() © 2006, Mirovaya Karta - All rights reserved |
